Nut-tree Tussock – 2026 (DE)
(NCBI-index: 987903)
The Nut-tree Tussock (Colocasia coryli) is a stocky and heavily hairy moth with broad forewings and rounded wingtips. The inner half of the forewing is usually dark in colour, with a conspicuous grey patch along the leading edge at the base of the wing. This dark zone is bordered by a broad black edge. The outer part of the wing is light grey to light brown in colour. A characteristic is the black-bordered ring spot with a dark centre, which is clearly visible. The species exhibits considerable colour variation. In some specimens, the basal area is lighter, making the grey patch along the leading edge less noticeable. The Nut-tree Tussock flies in two generations per year, from early April to early September. The wingspan varies from 27 to 35 millimetres. Host plant: Hazel, Birch, and Beech. Dutch name: Hazelaaruil. Frisian name: Hazzenútûltsje.
