Erebid Moths

The Erebid Moths (Erebidae) is a family of butterflies for which the taxonomy is not generally accepted. Due to specific characteristics, a number of butterflies from the family of the Tiger Moths (Arctiinae), Tussock Moths (Lymantriinae), and Owls (Noctuidae) have been transferred to this new family. However, the US government’s NCBI still sees the Tussock Moths as a separate family called the Lymantriidae. Since I use the NCBI as the basis for the taxonomy, I see the down butterflies as a separate family.
